Volunteer Openings

                                           Citizen Advocacy

I)    Take an active part in Virginia CURE activities that inform, build relationships and increase public awareness of our issues.
           i)     Help to plan special meetings and community forums
           ii)    Write letters to newspapers
           iii)   Research and respond to letters from members and others
           iv)   Visit church and other groups to speak about our organizations
            v)    Attend and monitor meetings of bodies that oversee the justice system.
           vi)   Speak out at public meeting and state and local legislative hearings.
           vii) Ask questions at candidate forums and town hall meetings.

2)    Pick an issue and study it, so that you can become a resource for that issue
             i) Join or be in contact with other groups concerned with that issue

3)    Inform your state legislators about issues of concern
            i) Visit and meet your legislators;  get to know them and get them to know you
           ii) Write letters to your legislators
           iii) Write letters to public officials
           iv) Become a member of a legislative committee and help to plan a legislative strategy
           v) Respond to alerts you may receive in email from our organizations

​4)    Volunteer for the Virginia CURE office
           i) Help with maintaining data bases, mailing lists and filing
          ii) Make phone calls to other members for important events               
          iii) Attend local meetings

5)    Start and lead a local chapter

6)    Help Virginia CURE raise funds

          i) Contact your church for a donation via share the plate or grant
         ii) Encourage members to contact their churches for contributions
         iii) Hold fund raising activities such as bake sales or special events

7)  Look for ways to utilize your personal skills to help our organizations
          i) Help design brochures, web pages and other PR materials
         ii) Provide help for technical issues affecting the office equipment
