As an advocacy organization, Virginia CURE does not provide services for the loved ones of people incarcerated; however, there are many wonderful organization that can assist those in need. We are an organization that communicates directly with people incarcerated through letters, and then take their concerns to help make the system a better place for all persons through his or her difficult time period. The National Resource Center on Children and the Families of the Incarcerated : For over three decades, NRCCFI has raised awareness about the needs and concerns of the children of the incarcerated and their families. Founded in 1983, the Family and Corrections Network (FCN) was the first national organization in the United States to focus on families of the incarcerated; in 2006, the Federal Resource Center on Children of Prisoners merged with FCN to create NRCCFI.
Assisting Families of Inmates, INC : The AFOI mission is to prevent the breakdown of relationships among inmates and their families by providing regular, meaningful visitation, support and education services. Our services help prepare families for a successful transition when the inmate is released from prison. AFOI is one of only a handful of such programs to provide these services in Virginia and across the United States.
ACTS (Area Congregations Together in Service):Provides financial support to Greater Richmond Area residents to keep them stably housed and to prevent homelessness. The organization helps families who are economically disadvantaged and on the verge of homelessness.
Prison Fellowship Prison Fellowship partners with local churches across the country to minister to a group that society often scorns and neglects: prisoners, ex-prisoners, and their families.
Powhatan-Goochland Community ActionAgency (P-GCAA): P-GCAA has provided an array of needed services to low-income families in both Powhatan and Goochland Counties. They work together on our common vision to fight poverty and build self-sufficiency, for strong families and communities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Good News Jail and Prison Ministry A non-profit organization formed for the purposes of organizing a visitation program for the benefit of inmates of institutions in the State; witnessing to inmates and their families; aiding in a physical and spiritual rehabilitation of men and women upon their release from an institution; and provision of an educational program within the institutions to encourage continuance of formal education among the inmates, as permitted by said institutions.
Resource Information for the Disadvantaged Resource Information Help for the Disadvantaged (R.I.H.D., Inc.) a nonprofit membership organization dedicated towards acquiring "earned" second chances for the risk youth, inmate & ex-offender through increased rehabilitation programs that leads towards decreasing the recidivism rate (return to criminal behavior) within all communities.
River City Comprehensive Counseling Services RCCCS provides individuals with effective mental health and substance abuse services in a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment. They offer several programs including Crisis Stabilization,HVRP (Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program), VEP (Veteran’s Employment Program), Alcohol Counseling and Treatment (ACT), and Alternatives to Incarceration (AIP) programs.
Salvation Army for Richmond VA The Army has grown and now offers numerous programs in Central Virginia including; the Adult Rehabilitation Center, The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club, Christmas Assistance programs, Centers for Worship and Service, Emergency Shelters, Family Services, Travelers Aid Services, a School of Performing Arts and Volunteer Outreach.
